Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty - Everything You Need to Know About the New DLC

Cyberpunk 2077, the ambitious sci-fi RPG from CD Projekt Red, has finally received its first major expansion: Phantom Liberty. This DLC adds a lot of new content and features to the game, as well as fixes some of the issues that plagued the launch version. If you are a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, or curious about what the game has to offer, here is everything you need to know about Phantom Liberty.

What is Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty is the one and only major DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, and it introduces a new story, a new district, new characters, new weapons, new vehicles, new abilities, and more. The DLC is set in Dogtown, a self-governed and war-torn area of Night City that is under the control of Kurt Hansen, a former Militech soldier and arms dealer. You are hired by the New United States of America (NUSA) to rescue their president, who crash-landed in Dogtown after an assassination attempt. Along the way, you will meet Song So-Mi, an NUSA hacker, and Solomon Reed, a veteran spy played by Idris Elba. You will also encounter Johnny Silverhand, the iconic rockerboy played by Keanu Reeves, who has a bigger role in this expansion.

How to Start Phantom Liberty?

You can start Phantom Liberty with either a new or an existing character. If you choose to start with a new character, you can skip ahead to the DLC content right away, after choosing your difficulty level, background, and appearance. If you choose to continue with an existing character, you will need to have completed the Transmission main story mission first. After that, you will receive a call from Song So-Mi, who will direct you to meet her at the entrance to Dogtown. From there, you can begin the Phantom Liberty adventure.

What are the New Features in Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty adds a lot of new features and improvements to Cyberpunk 2077, both in terms of gameplay and visuals. Some of the highlights are:

  • A new skill tree called The Relic, which lets you unlock powerful abilities related to your cybernetic implant that contains Johnny Silverhand’s personality.
  • A redesigned perk system that simplifies and consolidates the existing skill trees, making them more impactful and rewarding.
  • A level cap increase from 50 to 60, allowing you to further develop your character and skills.
  • A variety of new weapons, such as the Order Shotgun, the Grit Handgun, the Warden SMG, the Osprey Sniper Rifle, and more.
  • A selection of new vehicles, such as sports cars, armored trucks, and even six-wheeled rides.
  • A range of new cyberware augmentations that enhance your combat and hacking abilities.
  • A collection of new outfits and accessories that let you customize your look and style.
  • A number of new activities and side quests in Dogtown, such as racing, fighting tournaments, cyberpsycho hunts, and more.
  • An improved police and enemy AI system that makes them more responsive and challenging.
  • A revamped user interface that makes it easier to navigate menus and access information.
  • A set of new radio stations that add more variety and flavor to the game’s soundtrack.

What are the Reviews Saying About Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty has received mostly positive reviews from critics and players alike. The DLC has been praised for its engaging story, its charismatic characters, its stunning visuals, its immersive atmosphere, its refined gameplay mechanics, its diverse content, and its overall polish. Some of the drawbacks mentioned by reviewers include some lingering bugs and glitches, some confusing lore references, some repetitive missions and locations, some unbalanced difficulty spikes, and some missed opportunities for deeper choices and consequences.
