Why some games are "Super Mario" some other are just "Mario" in the title

The primary series of platformers in the Mario franchise are referred to as "Super Mario" games. Mario is the star of these games, which are based on his adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom. In order to beat foes and advance through stages, Mario is controlled by the player as he runs, leaps, and gathers power-ups. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, and Super Mario Odyssey are a few "Super Mario" game examples.

On the other hand, games in the Mario franchise that aren't platformers are referred to as "Mario" games. Mario could be the main character in these games, but they could also be sports, racing, or party games, for example. Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis and other "Mario" video games are some examples.

Although the difference between "Super Mario" and "Mario" might give a basic idea of the sort of game, it is important to note that there are exceptions and overlap between the two categories. For instance, some games, like Super Mario RPG or Super Mario 3D World, may combine platforming with other genres. To classify the numerous games in the Mario franchise, however, the distinction between "Super Mario" and "Mario" can be helpful.
